Coconut Tree or Ground Sort

Up high or down low. Coconut, mango and papaya against sweet potato, ginger and peanut.

The sort is easy. The value is the surprises, and there are two reliable ones. Peanuts grow underground, which nobody expects, and ginger is a root, which children have only ever seen in a kitchen.

We do this with real examples on the table where possible, and pictures where not.

The page has the picture set, the sorting frame, and the two surprise cards flagged so you can save them for last. Preschoolers respond to a reveal and this is one of the few sheets where you get a genuine one. The peanut card has produced actual gasps, which for a sorting worksheet is not bad.
