Map my Garden Path

Walk a route. Come back. Draw it.

Six year old maps are wonderful and wrong. Everything is drawn from the side, distances are governed by importance rather than metres, and the big tree takes up half the page. All of that is developmentally exactly right and should not be corrected.

What we do add is landmarks. The sheet asks for three things you passed, in order, and that ordering is the real skill.

The page has the drawing frame, the landmark boxes, and a partner check where another child tries to walk the map. That check is the moment a mapmaker discovers they left something out, and it teaches more than any correction from an adult would.
