Watch Rice Drink Water

Mark the water line with a stick. Come back tomorrow. It is lower.

That is the entire observation and it produces one of the best questions in the whole set, which is where did it go. Preschoolers propose that the plants drank it, that the sun took it, and that somebody tipped it out. All three are worth taking seriously and two are correct.

We do not resolve the question at this age. We record the guesses and revisit them a year later, which the sheet explains how to set up.

The page has the marking method, the daily check routine, and a recording strip. Run it in dry season if you can. Rain refilling the tray overnight destroys the effect and confuses everyone, including the adult.
