Find a bug. Look at it. Draw it. Do not catch it.

At three and four the drawing will be a circle with legs, and that is a full success. What matters is the looking that happens before the drawing, which is longer and more careful than it would be otherwise, because the child knows a drawing is coming.

We put a magnifier on the table but do not require it. Some children use it obsessively and others never touch it.

The page has one large drawing box, three tick boxes for how many legs, and a line for the child to say one thing they noticed, scribed by the adult. That scribed line is what parents keep. We have had them stuck on fridges for years.
