Mud Kitchen Measure and Pour

Every preschool has a mud kitchen and most of them are just mess. This sheet adds one thing, which is containers of obviously different sizes.

Once a child has a small cup and a large jug, filling one from the other becomes a question rather than an activity. How many small ones fill the big one. Preschoolers will find out, repeatedly, and remember the answer.

This is volume, three years before anyone calls it that. It is also the least resisted maths lesson we run, because nobody has told the children it is maths.

The page has the container set, the prompts to drop in without taking over, and a note on water supply, which is the real constraint. Fill a large drum in the morning. Running back to a tap breaks the session every time.
