Garden Color Basket Hunt

Give a child a basket with a coloured card taped inside and let them go. Twenty minutes later you get a basket of arguable decisions.

The arguing is the point. Is a pale yellow leaf yellow. Is a red stem on a green plant a red thing. Three and four year olds will defend their choices at length, and defending a categorisation is a considerably higher skill than making one.

We run four baskets at once with a small group and let children swap. The trading that develops is unplanned and better than anything we designed.

The sheet has the basket setup, the colours that work in a tropical garden, and a closing routine where each child presents one item. Keep the presentation to a single item. We tried all of them once and lost the room.
