Geometry is easier to find outdoors than in a shape book, once children know to look.

Spirals are the ones that change the session. Fern fronds, snail shells, the arrangement of leaves round a stem. Once a five year old has spotted a spiral they find them everywhere for a week.

We include triangle, circle, line and spiral. Four is enough and spiral does most of the work.

The page has the four shapes, a drawing box for each, and a prompt for the best example found. It also includes the note that not everything matches perfectly, which is the honest difference between mathematical shapes and living ones, and is a distinction five year olds can hold if you name it once.
