Reduce Food Waste Argument
by Eric Gonzalez-Payne

Weigh what gets thrown away, for a week. Then argue.
The number is always shocking, which is what makes the argument write itself. A week of weighed waste from a school kitchen or lunch hall gives a figure nobody disputes and everybody finds uncomfortable.
The page has the audit method, the recording sheet, a scaling calculation to a term and a year, and an argument frame. The composting connection is obvious and children get there themselves. The harder proposal, changing portion sizes or ordering, is where they meet real institutional resistance, which is itself worth experiencing.
