Fruit Fall Data Collection

Mark a zone under a fruiting tree. Check it daily. Record what fell, how much, and how far from the trunk.

The distance column is what makes this science rather than tidying. Fruit does not fall straight down and the pattern relates to wind, slope and branch position, all of which children can work out from their own numbers.

The page has the zone method, a fourteen day recording grid, and an analysis frame. It also has a note that this needs a genuinely fruiting tree, so check what is in season before starting rather than after, which we did not do the first year and got fourteen days of nothing.
