Rice Terrace Systems Map

The physical map is the easy half. The second half asks who decides where the water goes, and that is the part with the history in it.

Across Bali this is the subak, a water management system that has run for centuries and is a genuinely remarkable piece of collective engineering. Children who live beside it have usually never heard of it.

The page has the mapping frame, the physical flow, and a short explanation of shared water rights written for grade four. It also has three questions about what happens when someone upstream takes more than their share, which is a live question in the region and not a historical one.
