Garden Food Chain

Not a textbook chain. A chain built from things the class actually found.

That constraint makes it harder and much better. Children have to find a producer, a consumer and something that eats the consumer, all present on site, and the third link is where it gets difficult and interesting.

Birds usually solve it. Ants complicate everything, since they occupy several positions at once.

The page has the chain frames, a species list to fill in from observation, and a challenge box asking for a chain with four links. Four is hard on a small site and a class that manages it has genuinely investigated their garden rather than filled in a worksheet.
