Harvest to Bowl Sequencing

Eight stages, which is a lot, and that is intentional at grade two.

The stages children never guess are threshing and winnowing. Both are invisible in modern life and both are still done by hand within an hour's drive of most schools in the region.

We do a small version of both with the class harvest, which is messy and memorable.

The page has the eight cards, a sequencing strip, and a description line for each. It also includes a note on doing winnowing outdoors on a breezy day, which is both the traditional method and the only way it works. Indoors you get chaff in everything, as we can confirm.
