Rice Water Path Map

Water enters at the top and leaves at the bottom, passing through every level. Map it.

This is a real engineering system that most children in the region have seen and none have had explained. The map makes the logic visible, and the logic is elegant enough that seven year olds appreciate it.

We build a model version with trays on a slope alongside the mapping, which the sheet describes.

The page has the map frame, arrows, and three questions about what happens if a level is blocked. That blocked level question is the one that produces real thinking, because the answer affects everything downstream and children work that out for themselves.
