Go out. Notice three things. Come back. Build a story that uses all three.

The constraint does the work. A story that must contain a snail, a broken pot and the smell of rain has a shape before the child starts, and the blank page problem disappears.

We collect the three things as a class sometimes, which produces twenty different stories from identical ingredients and is a good demonstration of something children do not usually get to see.

The page has the observation boxes, a four part story frame, and a sharing routine. Read three aloud, not all of them. We read a whole class once and the last child had a bad time.
