Story from a Seed

Grade one writing, with a science spine. The child writes what happens to a seed, in order, from the seed's point of view.

The sequence has to be right, which is where the science lives, but the voice can be anything, which is where the writing lives. We have had seeds that were frightened of the rain and seeds that made friends with a worm, and both had the germination stages in the correct order.

Run it after the class has germinated something. Writing about a process you watched is a different task from writing about one you were told about.

The page has a four box story frame, a word bank of the stages, and a line for a title. Six year olds spend a surprising amount of time on the title. Let them.
